The Lord is On His Throne!
Dear Lakeside,
Many of you have been kind enough to ask how my next book, volume 2 of Theology for Every Person, is going. I have finished the writing, and the publisher is putting it together for print right now. The book is entitled “Word,” and you can see a picture of its cover below. You might be interested in reading the final paragraphs of the book, since they follow up on Sunday’s sermon on the Resurrection of Jesus Christ:
There is much still to be said about the future work of Christ in his second coming: his eschatological warfare with the devil and his followers, his resurrection of dead believers to join those who remain upon the earth, his victory over the evil one, his millennial reign, his final judgment, the casting of the devil and his followers into the eternal lake of fire, the unveiling of the new creation where heaven and earth are joined in the new Jerusalem, and his continual reign over and blessing of his people from the divine throne. But these awesome truths await the final volume of Theology for Every Person, which focuses on the Spirit while continuing to honor the Lord Jesus, who has the unqualified authority to name himself, “the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end” (Rev. 22:13).
The eternal Word’s human exaltation in and through his second coming does not, therefore, conclude or terminate either his divine authority or his human priesthood. Rather, Christ’s human exaltation will bring together eternity and time in the new creation, a creation eternally ruled by God in Christ by his Spirit. Redeemed humanity will have Christ forever as the eternal priest who grants us the privilege to approach the eternal throne and experience the blessed vision of the One who is Father and Son and Holy Spirit. In preparation for those earth-changing eschatological events, may I encourage you to sing from your heart with me a few verses from the great contemporary hymn, “He Is Lord”?
Humbled and rejected, beaten, and despised;
Upon the cross the Son of God was slain.
Just like a lamb to slaughter, a sinless sacrifice;
But, by His death His loss became our gain.
Satan’s forces crumbled like a mighty wall;
The stone that held Him in was rolled aside.
The Prince of Life in glory was lifted over all;
Now earth and heaven echo with the cry.
He is Lord, He is Lord!
He is risen from the dead and He is Lord!
Ev’ry knee shall bow, ev’ry tongue confess
That Jesus Christ is Lord.
(The Baptist Hymnal, 178)

Serve GISD!
As school classes started this week, Lakeside partnered with Stonewater Church to serve breakfast and smiles to GISD employees at their annual convocation. Afterwards, the breakfast volunteers gathered in prayer groups to lift up all schools, students, faculty, staff, and families in our community.
Special thanks to our breakfast volunteers, plus the burrito team (Deanna and Holy Smokers)!
