Healing in His Wings
Dear Church Family,
I have been hearing some great reports from our team in Belize. Thank you for praying for them and supporting them as they go. May we also be inspired and encouraged to share with those around us. Also, please be praying for those who we might invite to our Tenebrae and resurrection services coming up. Some are choosing to be baptized on that Sunday as well. If you need to take that next step in your journey, please let us know so we can celebrate this with you!
I read this interesting devotional about a specific Messianic prophecy that touched my heart:
“But unto you that fear my name shall the son of righteousness arise with healing in its wings; and ye shall go forth, and gambol as calves of the stall.”
Malachi 4:2 ASV
This is a Messianic prophecy in the last book of the Old Testament. It prophesied the coming Messiah as the son of righteousness with healing in His wings. So when Malachi says He’s going to have healing in His wings, the Hebrew word is the word kanaph, which can be translated wings, or it can be translated as a fringe or an edge, like on a garment. Jesus is obviously a rabbi—He’s a teacher. And the rabbis would wear these robes that would have fringe tassels on them. The word that was used for those fringe tassels was the word kanaph. In other words, that’s the rabbi’s wings. Well in Mark 5.25-34 we read about the woman with the issue of blood. And it specifically says she touches the edge of His garment expecting to be healed. Is it possible she knew Malachi chapter 4 and knew for 400 years they’ve been waiting for a Messiah to come who would have healing in His wings, and she had faith that this is the One who was promised? And so, in faith to Malachi chapter 4, she walks up and touches the fringe—the kanaph of His garment. We also much reach towards Jesus in faith!
Press On,
Mark
